The spires of the Guglie di Pichea resemble a stone castle and the Rifugio Bocca di Trat “Nino Pernici” has the appearance of guardhouse in an area of enormous strategic importance for the defence of the Upper Garda during the Great War. It was built in 1929 by the Riva branch of SAT (Association of Trentino Mountaineers) on the ruins of the Austro-Hungarian officers' mess. The relatively low altitude (1,600 metres) and the influence of the lake make it accessible all year round, whether to discover historic sites or to explore the little wild valleys with their astonishing variety of flora and fauna. Open From mid-April to mid-October Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks The Rifugio Bocca di Trat “Nino Pernici” is at the end of the first stage of the “Garda-Brenta” path. The refuge is also on the Peace Path, which here takes you by way of Bocca Savàl and Bocca Giumela to Rocchetta, Cima Sperone and Cima Capi, where you can see Austrian fortifications dug into the rock (4 hours, difficulty E). A 30-minute walk from the refuge (difficulty E) is the Caverna Riccabona, an Austrian military emplacement carved into the rock.

By road
From Riva del Garda you can drive to the Rifugio Capanna Grassi car park then continue on foot on SAT path 402 up to Bocca di Trat (1 ½ hours, difficulty E). From Lenzumo drive up the Val di Concei to Malga Trat (car park) then continue on foot to the refuge on SAT path 403 (20 minutes, difficulty E).Coordinates
