Rifugio Monte Lefre is located almost at the top of the mountain of the same name, in a position that dominates the Valsugana.

Author’s recommendation

Just a short walk from Rifugio Monte Lefre, along a comfortable trail heading west, you reach the wonderful “Belvedere del Monte Lefre”, with the remains of the “Caposaldo”, a series of posts and observation stations dating back to WWI and WWII. There is a grand view of the Valsugana.

Destination

Rifugio Monte Lefre (1286m)

Turn-by-turn directions

The route strictly follows the route of SAT trail 329.

From the parking area, you cross Fracena locality along the road that heads east. At the end of the road you will find the beginning of a mule track marked with trail number 329. The track runs at the feet of the West-Southwest slope of Monte Lefre, and then begins to climb quite steeply. You come to a fork in the road and ignore the trail heading off to the right towards Ponte dell’Orco, and continue straight along trail 329, which remains a mule track.

Passing the “Capitel di Sant’Antonio”, you gain elevation with a series of bends, and cross a picturesque panoramic spot.

You climb along the road to a place called “Prati dei Floriani”, characterised by the presence of numerous mountain cottages. Here, the route joins a paved road, which you follow towards “Prati di Sopra del Lefre” locality. Before you get there, you take the mule track on the left (still marked 329), which climbs to the “Chiesetta degli Alpini”, just a few steps away from Rifugio Monte Lefre.

To return, you follow the same route backwards.
