This suggestive trek from the Lupo Bianco (Canazei) to the grassy slopes of Passo Sella is one of the most interesting if you want to enjoy the local uncontaminated nature and breathtaking views. The upper part offers some unmissable scenery, with the succession of Dolomite pinnacles and mountains: the Marmolada glaciers, the Sella massif, the impressive wall of mount Ciavazes, the huge Sass Pordoi and the seemingly never-ending rocky wall of the Sasso Lungo. The itinerary is sparsely frequented, even in summer.

Destination

Rifugio Valentini al Passo Sella

Turn-by-turn directions

Start at the large forecourt of the Lupo Bianco Hotel & Restaurant, from where there’s a small forest road that descends to a small bridge across the Ruf de Antermont; on the other side, take the small forest road that passes by a Bar Refreshment Point.

Continue uphill on a steep dirt road (the sign to follow is 655), which ascends through the wood, to the fields up on the mountain slope. Turn left at the Val crossroads and follow the signs on trail No. 655 to “Passo Sella”, which leads to a beautiful path through the scenic fields below the pass, offering magnificent views of the Sassolungo Group. Behind you, you can admire the enormous Sass Pordoi and, in the distance, the unmistakable mass of the Marmolada. A final ramp leads to Rifugio Valentini (at 2213 m) near Passo Sella.

From here, trace your steps back to the departure point.
