741. Dos de le strie
A technically very easy tour, starting and finishing in Tenno. Mostly on asphalt, the route can be enjoyed with a gravel bike instead of a Mountain Bike.
Starting from the highest point along the whole route, i.e. the village of Tenno. You will contend first with the descent, then the ascent: drawing a ring around the cliff on which Tenno Castle stands. The closure of a passage in the valley of the Dos delle Strie has forced a partial modification of the route, depriving it of a short - but enjoyable part of gravel road. From a technical point of view, this route is accessible to practically everyone. It is only the gradient in the first part of the ascent, exceeding 10%, which could prove to be a challenge for some.
Author’s recommendation
Strie means witches, who probably lived isolated in the woods..

Turn-by-turn directions
The starting point of the route has been positioned at the crossroads in front of Tenno Castle. Following the clear directions for route 741 near the car park, leave in the direction of Pranzo. Continue straight onto via dei Molini, until you meet the provincial road on the other side of the wide valley. Keeping left at the stop sign, proceed downhill following two hairpin bends. Then, on the long straight, paying attention when crossing the road - take the gravel road on your left for the provincial road to Deva. Continue downhill, turning immediately left, and following the clear directions, descend to the bottom of the valley surrounded by olive trees. At the end of the descent, turn left and pass an old church. Keep left at the main road junction in Varone and a short distance away at the next intersection regulated by a traffic light, turn immediately right.
Along this stretch of route, you are not supported by signage, but it is easy enough to navigate. When you reach the church in the centre of Varone, the road bends to the left. Follow it leaving the building behind you, and at the next junction turn right. Continue to the next stop at the intersection with Via Venezia. Turn left here following the road until you reach Hotel Varone. The route is not signposted here, however you can make use of the S.A.T signs with directions to Tenno.
Just past the hotel, take the right fork up to join the main road to Tenno. Cross it continuing your ascent onto Via dei Capitelli, where you will find the route signage. The gradient is quite challenging up to the village of Cologna, which you traverse to once again meet the main road to Tenno. Travelling uphill, for a few hundred metres you will meet the start of the cycle path to Volta di No. Once in Volta di No, continue straight near to a hairpin bend and, after a few dozen meters, turn left, following the route signs. Still climbing, you will find yourself on the beautiful ‘Pil’ road. The terrain here is at times a bit rough but the gradient isn’t too bad and the view is pleasant to say the least. At the end of this gravel road, you’ll meet a secondary paved road - continue to the left, quickly finding Tenno Castle, the start point.
