The route is just over 9 km log with an overall elevation gain of about 50 m. It runs through the northern area of the Lower Sarca Valley, the foothills of Monte Casale and Monte Bondone. The first stretch is all on cycle paths, then quiet country roads, with only one section on dirt road. As already mentioned, the entire route has no technical difficulties and it is practically on the flat. These areas have a century-long tradition of wine-making and despite the fact that the route is so short, you will come across three vineyards. Before you head back to Pietramurata, you can visit nearby Lake Cavedine.

Turn-by-turn directions

The starting point of the route is in Pietramurata, at the church in the centre of the town and  piazza Mercato, the market square. Heading toward the River Sarca you come to the cycle path which you follow northwards, cycling along the banks of the river. At the end of the cycle path, at Sarche, keep right and a local road takes you to a roundabout at the winery Cantina di Toblino. This roundabout is always very busy. Cross it and take the second exit, continuing on down the main road towards Lake Cavedine. At the junction of Ponte Oliveti, keep to the right and continue on in the direction of the lake. After about 500 m, leave the main road, turning left onto a country road. Cross a small bridge and then head south along the river through the vineyards on an easy dirt track. Pass the Cantina Pisoni winery,  a place steeped in history and tradition, and head on to the historic centre of Pergolese. You will find yourself back on a paved road again, now keep left and stay on the left side of the river, continuing southwards. After about 1.5 km, a short distance from Lake Cavedine, the signposting for this route tells you to cross the rive on your right to bring you back to your starting point. Shortly before you come to the church, you will pass another famous winery in the area, Azienda agricola Gino Pedrotti

Equipment

Riding your bike requires specific clothing and equipment, even for relatively short and easy trips. It is always better to be prepared… e.g. for bad weather or a sudden drop in your energy levels. The unexpected things are part of the fun!

Remember to thoroughly evaluate the type of route you plan on doing, the locations you intend to cross and the current season. Has it been raining? Attention: The paths may be slippery and require more caution.

What do I need to bring on my bike tour?

  • An adequate water supply according to your needs (considering temperature, possibility of refuelling and duration of the route)
  • Plenty of snacks (for example, dried fruit or energy bars)
  • Waterproof / Windproof jacket
  • A spare top / spare socks (Descending in a sweaty garment, will make you cold).

  • Map or GPS device
  • Bike lights: best placed on your helmet or handlebars. (It is always best to be prepared)
  • Bike repair kit for punctures and mechanical breakdowns
